Title: Hudobný publicista, kritik a klavirista Gustáv Koričánsky | ||
Author: J. Ruttkay | ||
Abstract: The study brings the biographical and bibliographical profile of the music publicist, critic and pianist Gustáv Koričánsky (1886–1947). Next to his civil profession of a bank office worker he was active in the field of music in the Romanian Sibiu (from 1910), and in Slovakia (in the period 1920–1947). During the almost four decades he became an untiring supporter and promoter of the music of Ján Levoslav Bella, Viliam Figuš-Bystrý, Mikuláš Schneider-Trnavský and other representatives of the earlier Slovak composing generation in Bratislava, Prague, Budapest and elsewhere. He opposed the advocates of modernist concepts, which resulted in professional conflicts with the critics Ivan Ballo and Antonín Hořejš. Therefore we rank him among conservative critics. |
