Title: COMMITMENT IN UNMARRIED COHABITATION
Author: Martin VACULIK, Veronika JEDRZEJCZYKOVA
Abstract: The text is devoted to the problems of commitment for couples living in unmarried cohabitation. When discussing commitment, the authors go from the Investment model. According to this model, commitment consists of relationship satisfaction, quality of alternatives and investment size. The authors focused on the investigation of differences between the above-stated variables of couples living in two types of unmarried cohabitation - unmarried cohabitation as a trial marriage and unmarried cohabitation as an alternative to marriage. The examination group consists of 85 people between the ages of 20 and 28 who live with their partner in unmarried cohabitation. For data collection, the authors used the following self-report measures - The Investment model scale and The Enrich marital satisfaction scale. According to the results, people who live in these two types of cohabitation differ in their sensed commitment and relationship satisfaction. People who think of marrying their partner feel a stronger commitment and are more satisfied than people who do not consider getting married. Proceeding from The Investment model, relationship satisfaction is mostly determined by sensed commitment. Within the group of men, quality of alternatives is also important. |
