Title: Stratégie zvládania a ich efektívnosť u detí s telesným postihnutím

Abstract: he contribution is focused on interception of preferences and effectiveness of coping strategies of pubescents with physical handicap. The sample consisted of 48 pupils of basic school for physically disabled youth (28 boys and 20 girls); the control group consisted of 85 peers of regular basic schools (42 boys and 32 girls). The results specify sources of stress which are mostly related to educational process and the school system. Physically handicapped boys experience them less intensely than the intact ones; girls exhibit mostly dominance of problems in interpersonal relationships. In coping with stress, boys prefer strategies such as elusiveness of attention, wishful thinking, and resignation; of positive strategies it is solution of problems. Girls with physical handicap significantly more frequently than intact girls opt for resignation and social support. Handicapped girls use positive strategies of solution of problems and emotional regulation less frequently than their healthy peers.
