Title: Process optimization of the extrusion through rotating container with AZ31 magnesium alloy
Author: F. LI, N. BIAN, Y. C. XU

Abstract: In order to study the effects of processing parameters on the extrusion through rotating container, the AZ31 magnesium alloy was employed as an example. The results by the numerical simulation show that the velocity field presents a specific characteristic vortex distribution. Compared to the conventional extrusion, the axial stress distribution difference of radial points along the die presented a tendency to decrease, and the flow uniformity of extrudate increased. The possibility of surface cracking obviously decreased. The structure refinement and load reducing can be realized by extrusion through rotating container. But the interaction effect among angular velocity of rotating container, extrusion speed and temperature had direct relation to the temperature arise and load peak. On the basis of the research of processing parameters, the limit diagram of extrusion through rotating container was established. The limit diagram provided theoretical basis for process formulation and defect prevention in the process of extrusion through rotating container.
