Title: Organové novostavby na západnom Slovensku v 21. storočí
Author: Matúš Maraček

Abstract: Organ as a “royal instrument” has a special position among the musical instruments. Its history in Slovakia began in the 14th century. In the course of six centuries a number of organs were built in our territory. Many of them do not exist any more, and lots of historical instruments are neglected and ended up in inferior conditions. However, in the 21st century some new organs have been built. The study deals with selected newly-built organs in the Western Slovakia, with a special focus on the three most important of them – the organ in the Concert Hall of the Slovak Philharmonic in Bratislava, in St. Martin’s Cathedral in Bratislava and in St. Emmeram’s Cathedral in Nitra. The other organs are analysed to a smaller extent.
For any particular organ we offer the description of the space in which the instrument is built, the history of preceding organs on the site, if any, history of the organ building company, the visual aspect, technical and acoustic solutions, disposition and finally the present state of the instrument and its utilization.
The study offers a survey of hitherto unpublished information about particular newly-built 21st-century organs in Western Slovakia.
