Abstract: ADAPTATION OF TRAIL MAKING TEST FOR USE WITH CHILDREN FROM SOCIALLY DISADVANTEGED ENVIRONMENT The paper informs about problems associated with use of Trail making test D-KEFS in assessment of Roma children. The results obtained from two age groups of Roma children (50 nine-year-olds and 47 eleven-year-olds) showed that connecting the stimuli in sequential order based on two different principles represents two distinct tasks with unequal difficulty. Markedly worse results in connecting the stimuli in alphabetic order reflect knowledge of these children to an undesirable extent, deforming the test validity. Adaptation of test material inspired by Chinese model changed the principles of ordering in a way that resulted in quantitatively comparable difficulty. The new version of the test requires further validation studies, however the current study points to the possibilities of eliminating or at least decreasing the cultural bias of tests used in psychological assessment of Roma children. |
