Title: Influence of solution treatment on microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of a new titanium alloy
Author: C. Li, M. Li, H. Li, J. Chen, H. Xiao

Abstract: Microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of a new titanium alloy Ti-4Al-3V-2Mo-1Fe (wt.%) were investigated in this paper. Both the α + β and β solution treatments were introduced to clarify the relationship between microstructures and properties. Results show that the microstructures and mechanical properties of the alloy vary with the solution temperature. With the increase of solution temperature, the α-phase fraction increases first and then decreases until it disappears completely. After a solid solution treatment at temperatures above 800 °C, the thermal stability of β-phase decreases gradually, and martensitic transformation occurs. Solution treatment at a certain temperature can make the α-phase equiaxed. The mixed microstructure of α + β + martensite has good mechanical properties. Fracture observation shows that the failure mechanism of different specimens varies with the solution temperature.
