Abstract: SENSE OF HUMOUR IN PUPILS FROM SCHOOL FOR INTELLECTUALLY GIFTED AND ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH PERSONALITY
Abstract: Advanced sense of humour is often considered to be one of the signs of intellectual giftedness in children. The goal of the study was to compare the sense of humour of sixteen year old students attending the school for exceptionally gifted children to that of children attending regular secondary grammar school. The relationship between sense of humour of gifted students and their personality was also studied. The sense of humour was assessed using the self-report Multidimensional Sense of Humor Scale developed by Thorson and Powell. Factor analysis identified three factors for this questionnaire – social production and use of humour, adaptive humour, appreciation of and attitudes toward humour. Big Five personality traits were assessed using NEO-FFI questionnaire. The results showed that students attending the school for exceptionally gifted children scored significantly higher on social production and use of humour scale. No difference was found in other two scales or the overall score. There was a positive correlation between sense of humour and extraversion and agreeableness in gifted students.
