Abstract: SPIRITUALITY, FORGIVENESS AND SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS AS DETERMINANTS OF SUBJECTIVE WELL-BEING OF ADOLESCENTS
Abstract: The main goal of this study was to verify the relationships between spirituality, forgiveness, socioeconomic status and subjective well-being of adolescents. The research sample consisted of 182 adolescents aged 17-19 years. The following research methods were used: The Daily Spiritual Experience Scale (Underwood and Teresi), The Forgiveness Scale (Thompson et al.) measuring forgiveness of self, others, and situations, Emotional habitual subjective well-being scales (Džuka and Dalbert) measuring positive and negative state of mind, and General Life Satisfaction Scale (Dalbert). Data were analysed using the hierarchical multiple linear regression analysis (stepwise method). The results showed that socioeconomic status and forgiveness of situations, to a lesser extent spirituality, are important predictors of positive well-being of adolescents. Forgiveness to self has the highest predictive power in relation to negative state of mind, lesser predictive power was observed in case of forgiveness of situations. Among the strongest predictors of general life satisfaction are socioeconomic status and forgiveness of situations; spirituality and complete family also contribute to the prediction. Of the controlled variables, gender was found to be associated with negative state of mind – women had more negative emotions compared to men.
