Title: Observations on the intersection between {1011} and {1012} twin in deformed magnesium alloy
Author: G. Xi, J. Zhang, J. Wu, J. Jia, Y. Zhi

Abstract: Twin boundary plays a significant role in plastic deformation and consequently affects the mechanical properties of Mg alloys. In this work, the intersectant interfaces of {1011}-{1012} double twin in deformed magnesium alloy were characterized employing high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). The result indicates that {1011} twin boundary entirely departs from the theoretical twinning plane near the interaction site, while {1011} plane of matrix and twin is parallel and {1011} twin boundary is composed of {1011} coherent twin boundary and {0002}‖{1011} basal-pyramidal (BPy) boundaries away from interaction site. Furthermore, the boundary interacted by {1011} and {1012} is decorated by BP/PB boundary, and {1012}-{1011} twin interaction results in a high-angle asymmetrical tilt boundary at the interaction site. Correspondingly, the microstructural features related to the interactional incidents are discussed.
