Abstract: NARRATIVE COMPREHENSION OF INTACT CHILDREN AND CHILDREN WITH DEVELOPMENTAL LANGUAGE DISORDER
The paper maps how preschool children – intact (n = 21) and children with developmental language disorder (n = 21) – understand narratives. Comprehension level was assessed using the narrative assessment tool MAIN: Multilingual Assessment Instrument for Narratives. The authors were interested whether, with the help of this tool, differences in narrative comprehension between the mentioned groups of children would be found. The results of the study showed that the given groups differ in the total score, but also in the subscore in the area of ​​understanding the internal states of the characters and in the ability to understand the causes of these internal states. The clinical group of children is characterized by difficulties in story comprehension, especially in the area of ​​understanding experiences and intentions of the characters in the stories.
