Title: DETI AKO PRIAMI ÚČASTNÍCI NÁSILIA V PÁROVÝCH VZŤAHOCH
Author: Ľuba Pavelová,Martina Hrozenská

Abstract: CHILDREN IN THE MIDST OF INTIMATE PARTNER VIOLENCE
Abstract: Children of mothers who have experienced violence within a partner relationship are perceived as a factor affecting women’s strategies in eliminating violence and are part of the so-called turning points that motivate women to change their behaviour. However, children are not always considered to be experiencing direct involvement in this violence. The paper points to the need to perceive such children not only as witnesses but also as direct victims of violence, even when the violent action was not primarily directed at them. The data were obtained using an anamnestic questionnaire and a semi-structured interview with 44 women experiencing intimate partner violence. The data were processed using the method of qualitative analysis in ATLAS.ti 8 and MS Excel 2013 software, while the procedures of phenomenological thematic analysis were mainly applied. The results showed that children are directly involved and affected by violence even if the violent action was not primarily directed at them. The identified strategies used by women to prevent, mitigate, or stop violence in intimate relationships point to the need to pay attention to the experiences of their children and to speed up the support and help for women.
