| Abstract: MENTAL DISABILITY IN ICD-11 Abstract: The paper informs about changes in the diagnostic criteria for mental disability in the latest revision of the International Classification of Diseases. The previous term mental retardation has been replaced by disorders of intellectual development. In addition to impairment of intellectual functioning, a mandatory criterion of this diagnosis is a deficit in social adaptation. The use of standardized tests with adequate norms is required, which is not always achievable. Great emphasis is therefore placed on clinical judgment. As a basis for it, behavioural indicators of intellectual functioning and adaptive behaviour in childhood, adolescence, and adulthood are provided. |
